I am one of those people who buy a smartphone a couple of years after its release. This way you not only get a good price but the phone has actually been thoroughly checked by multiple reviewers for its performance and any bugs.
I believe it is a good way of saving money and making the right decision. One of my recent purchases includes a brand new Oppo R9 Plus and this is its review.
Overview
Released in 2016, the R9 Plus was Oppo’s flagship and competed with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Apple’s iPhone 6S. The R9 Plus has upped its game in every aspect compared its elder sibling the R9. It houses a more powerful processor and GPU, making it a great performer even in 2018. The screen size on the Plus has also been increased to 6 inches, hence the plus in the name. The battery has also been beefed up to a staggering 4120 mAh. You can check out Oppo R9 Plus plan to see if the price is good for you.
Camera
Oppo has garnered most of its fame because of the selfie cameras it features. This model is no different. It features a 16-megapixel front shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The resulting pictures are nothing short of gorgeous. The front camera can easily record 1080p videos at 30 fps.
The back of the phone also houses a 16-megapixel shooter with the addition of LED flash and a PDAF sensor that enable it to take almost professional looking photos. The back camera supports video recording of up to 2160p @ 30fps.
Battery Life
Battery life was probably its best draw when it was released and by my usage rate it probably still is. If you are a mediocre user and do not consume too much media on your phone, it could easily last you a day and a half.
Storage
The standard model comes with 64 GB of built-in storage along with 4 GB of Ram. If this isn’t enough for you, you can pay a little extra to get the 128 GB version. Ram remains the same in the updated version though. More storage space can be added thanks to its hybrid dual sim technology. The hybrid technology allows you to swap the second sim with a micro SD card of up to 256 GB.
Display
The biggest difference maker here, apart from its battery, is the R9 Plus’s 6-inch screen. The beautiful panel supports the pixel density of 367 ppi with an aspect ratio of 16:9 at 1080 by 1920 pixels. The screen produces very bright and crisp colors even according to 2018 standards.
Design
There isn’t much to say about the design except that more or less reminds you of an iPhone 6. It is made out aluminum. The whole unit weighs almost about 200 grams.
Standard Features
Other standard features include a fingerprint scanner, the 3.5mm audio jack, all standard communications sensors like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Verdict
The Oppo R9 Plus gave many of the flagships a run for their money back in its days and still manages to do so to many of the phones is available in its price today. Do check out Oppo R9 Plus plan and have a blast! Or you can check out Samsung Note 8 plans if you are not an Oppo lover.
